Antonio Vivaldis Biography :: essays research papers

Antonio Vivaldi was born in Venice on March 4th, 1678. though ordained a priest in 1703, according to his own account, within a year of being ordained Vivaldi no longer wished to celebrate mass because of physical complaints ("tightness of the authority") which pointed to angina pectoris, asthmatic bronchitis, or a nervous disorder. It is as well as possible that Vivaldi was simulating illness - there is a story that he sometimes left the communion table in order to quickly jot down a musical idea in the sacristy.... In any event he had become a priest once against his own will, perhaps because in his day training for the priesthood was often the only possible way for a poor family to obtain free schooling. Though he wrote many fine and memorable concertos, such as the Four Seasons and the Opus 3 for example, he also wrote many works which sound the likes of five-finger exercises for students. And this is precisely what they were. Vivaldi was employed for most of his wor king life by the Ospedale della Piet. Often termed an "orphanage", this Ospedale was in fact a home for the female offspring of noblemen and their numerous dalliances with their mistresses. The Ospedale was thus well endowed by the "anonymous" fathers its furnishings bordered on the opulent, the young ladies were well looked-after, and the musical standards among the highest in Venice. Many of Vivaldis concerti were indeed exercises which he would play with his many talented pupils. Vivaldis relationship with the Ospedale began right after his ordination in 1703, when he was named as violin teacher there. Until 1709, Vivaldis appointment was renewed all year and again after 1711. Between 1709 and 1711 Vivaldi was not attached to the Ospedale. Perhaps in this period he was already working for the Teatro Sant Angelo, an opera theater. He also remained active as a composer - in 1711 twelve concertos he had written were published in Amsterdam by the music publisher Est ienne Roger under the name lEstro armonico (Harmonic Inspiration). In 1713, Vivaldi was given a months leave from the Ospedale della Piet in order to stage his first opera, Ottone in villa, in Vicenza. In the 1713-4 season he was once again attached to the Teatro Sant Angelo, where he produced an opera by the composer Giovanni Alberto Rostori (1692-1753). As far as his theatrical activities were concerned, the end of 1716 was a high point for Vivaldi.

Pro-Life Editorial Response :: essays research papers

Dear Mr. Shawn Nauman,This letter is in response to your March 1, 1995 editorial regarding abortion. It must have been very tough at times, growing up with parents who were so young and unprepared for a child. I must commend your parents for doing such a wonderful job of raising a son who grew up to be so vocal with his opinions and thoughts. I realize with your mother being a teenager at the time of your conception, and with the timing of her pregnancy, with regards to the infamous Roe v. walk decision, that the issue of abortion is perhaps an issue that is very personal one. You make some heart-touching statements in your writing, such as, she gave up her life so that she could give me mine, and I have the pleasure of knowing I am living because she loved me. I must admit though, it caught me entirely off guard when I got to the geological period in your column that you revealed that you were indeed pro-choice. You seem like the perfect candidate for someone who would be preachi ng pro-life. Mr. Nauman, I ask you, how does your conscience allow you to come on pro-choice behavior when you know that abortion means murdering a human being? You may contend that a fetus does not fit the pen of a human being because the fetus is not a living human being before birth. Basic biological knowledge easily defeats this statement. in one case sperm enters into the vagina, it travels through the cervix and into the Fallopian tubes. Conception usually takes place in the outer third of the Fallopian tube. A single sperm penetrates the mothers egg cell and the developing child gets half of its genetic information, in the form of DNA, from the mother, which resides inside in the egg, and half from the father, which is found in the sperm. The resulting single cell is called a zygote. The zygote spends the contiguous few days traveling down the Fallopian tube and divides to form many attached cells. A ball of cells is produced, each cell including a copy of the genes that bequeath guide the development of the baby. Once about 32 cells have developed, biologists term the developing baby as a morula. With additional cell division, the morula becomes an outer blast of cells with an attached inner group of cells. The developing baby now enters the "blastocyst" stage.

Quit Wasting Valuable Time and Resources Essay -- Argumentative Educat

Quit Wasting Valuable Time and Resources It is vital that present and future contemporariess of school children in American public schools lapse to be taught and visualise Charles Darwins theories about evolution. Battles have been waged by Americans both in and out of the courtroom for generations so that educators may have the privilege to subscribe to appropriate scientific curriculum for our students. If America is to continue to be a leader of scientific research, young minds must be educated, not stifled by attempts to bring religion into the schools. The very idea of using valuable time in our schools to muddy the educational process with ideas such as Creationism or goodly Design infringes upon American civil rights. To allow biblical interpretations to be taught as science in our schools is an affront to this nations constitutional protection to righteousness as one pleases. Because of our extremely technical world today, action needs to be taken so that every Am erican child has the opportunity to understand science and continues to have the right to be taught about Darwins theory of evolution in the public schools. We must continue to help our future generations progress, using the scientific foundation we have struggled to establish in our schools. It is essential to dispel fears, reason with religious zealots and ensure that the rulings of the U.S. Supreme Court ar upheld. There is no reason to go back in time and argue moot issues, when there are so many other educational challenges in our schools that need our attention. Americans need to move on and help our children stay up with the modern world. The issue of evolution is certainly not new.
